Just another Edublogs.org weblog

Thing 22

This was not real helpful to me at this time. I am glad to know about it, in case I need it in the future.
I didn’t really want to join but did see some merit in networking with folks with similiar interests. My overall impressions is that there is something for everyone and I have bookmarked Ning and the 2.0 site. I just don’t know that I’ll take the time to do this unless I’m looking for something in particular. There were a few subjects that interested me, but I didn’t want to join right now and it seemed as if that’s what I needed to do to read some of the posts. I think I could use this to network with other professionals when I need advice or when I’m on the prowl for new ideas.

Thing 23

Well, I certainly am not the same brain that started this course. I will say it was not for beginners as I had several challenges and had 2 techy folks at my house to help me get unstuck. I can’t imagine how this course would go for someone who doesn’t have that tech tutor available. This is just not my “thing”, however the more I learn, the more I see the value. At first I wondered who would waste their time doing all of this on a computer and sitting all the time. But the more I learn, the more I understand that I don’t have a choice but to get hip with all of this. It is a train that I am not going to stop and I better find a way to at least grasp onto the fast moving rail or else I will be left in the dust. I did get excited about the wikki as it was fun to play and create that and my daughter and I had many laughs and still do about my “voki”. I also am intrigued to use the social networking and my Pageflakes. The imbedding of podcasts and videos will be amazing to use for power point presentations. I am looking forward to more exploring this year as the need arises. If I can just remember all the crazy names”).

Thing 7b

“http://wrightslaw.com/”> I am reminded about this website which I try to remember to recommend to parents. This is managed by a husband and wife team who are both lawyers and have helped many parents with their books. I helps them understand how the system works in education and how they can best help their children.

Thing 21

I have to say this thing was the most fun for me. I am still not able to get it to come up first on my computer, but will work on that. I love being able to personalize a page just for me. I will use it for news, education as well as movies and driving directions. I love having everything all in one place. I will use the calendar. Once I explore some more I can see directing others to this so we could share all kinds of information. I’m not sure how I would use this any differently from a blog when it comes to sharing articles or new research with parents, but I will continue to explore possibilities. For now, it will serve as more of a personal page of information for me. I can see where it would be easy to stay on Pageflakes for too long.

Thing 20

Ok. This was another aha moment. I can use the new docs for wordcards for my students and they could keep finding updated versions. I also give them power points for practice and I could easily send it to several students instead of just one at a time. This has opened my eyes to more possibilities I never even knew existed. I’m working on posting a power point presentation so teachers could copy slides that weren’t in their handouts. These would be three ways I can think of right away. For collaborative use, I guess I would use it for sources for parents to gain information about learning issues. There could be sites but also books, programs and all kinds of ways for parents to get help for their children. I would invite others to add to it so there could be a really comprehensive list for Atlanta as well as other areas.

Thing 19

I love it! I can learn how to pave a patio, add knitting stitches. The possibilities are endless. I found 2 excellent information videos about dyslexia and some things to chuckle about. I could use these for teaching teachers, doing parent classes and just educating myself.

Thing 18

This was easy once I got the hang of Evoca and invited my daughter to lunch for moral and technical support.  I can see using this for sure to leave information for parents on a blog.  My mind is racing. I love that I could make this for parents to hear as they are made.

Thing 17

The brain wires are clicking away.  I have never really done much with podcasts but found a few interesting things pertaining to my profession.  I have downloaded itunes and will look forward to getting some feeds through my reader.  I can see talking to parents through a podcast, about most frequently asked questions pertaining to struggling readers or dyslexia.  It could be a quick run down of what I am asked most often.  I visited Reading Rockets and the titles are good.  I’ll be interested to explore it more to see if it’s indeed a helpful resource for parents.  My initial impression is good as it has the right buzz words. I also liked Grammar girl.  I can consult it when I’m just not sure of a rule!  http://oedb.org/library/beginning-online-learning/skip-the-tuition:-100-free-podcasts-from-the-best-colleges-in-the-world.  I can learn just about anything on this site.  There was Italian from Duke and Algorythms from Harvard.  Wow.  I could spend some time here.

Thing 16

I have to admit I found myself drawn to  this site with more of a personal  bent than a professional one.  I’m sure it has to do with the fact that I’m headed for a 2 week vacation in the mountains and I have a pile of books that have been handed down to me from my sister-in-law (who will also  be with me for the 2 weeks).  I love visiting with her anyway and doing crafts and pottery, but now I can add another dimension to our friendship.  We can discuss the books she gave me!  However, in the fall once the school year gets in swing, I will be anxious to explore this site further.  Wow. I am still amazed at what all is out there and still cannot believe the time that people spend putting stuff like this on computer.  I am entering a whole new realm:).

Thing 15

Well, this was another ah ha moment when I finally figured this one out.  It was actually quite easy and I found myself clicking just to see what would happen when I didn’t get something automatically.  I also found myself in places I never would have found on my own.  My subject was dyslexia and I found the usual charlatans, but I also found some folks out there with credentials, in addition to the sites I already knew.  The way I can use this is to actually direct teachers and parents to my “delicious” and they can save a lot of time. I love it! http://del.icio.us/jeanderosa.  Here is a link to my finds!  I will continue to add as soon as I get this course behind me:).
